Escargot |
| PRIVATE COLLECTION Shorewood, Minnesota |
| In its raw state this material appeared to be a brown log with a bump on it. The bump was a calcite geode and it was positioned in such a way that I was determined and hopeful that I could develop a snail, if I took care not to crack the proverbial "egg." Escargot is a 40 to 50 million year old fossil, from a southern Utah riverbank. Southern Utah was covered long ago by the Gulf of Mexico. |
